Dr Fong Poh Ling

Senior Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon

Dr Fong Poh Ling graduated from NUS school of Medicine in 2003 and became a fully registered medical practitioner in 2004. She did her basic surgical training from 2006 to 2008 and started advanced surgical training in Orthopaedics surgery from 2009 to 2012. She believes in keeping up with the latest advancements in orthopaedics and incorporates new tools to improve patient outcomes.

Dr Fong Poh Ling graduated from NUS school of Medicine in 2003 and became a fully registered medical practitioner in 2004. She did her basic surgical training from 2006 to 2008 and started advanced surgical training in Orthopaedics surgery from 2009 to 2012. She believes in keeping up with the latest advancements in orthopaedics and incorporates new tools to improve patient outcomes.

Dr Fong successfully completed her training and was conferred Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in Orthopaedic Surgery in 2013. She went on to further her training in spine surgery in Singapore General Hospital from 2014. In 2017 she was awarded the MOH HMDP scholarship and was able to gain further experience in the field of sagittal balance and degenerative scoliosis in Bordeaux, France.

Her interest is in the treatment of ageing and degenerative spine with special interest in sagittal balance and deformity. She also works closely with hospitals in China, especially in Nanjing (Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital) and Qingdao (Qingdao Municipal Hospital) in deformity work and education. As she is effectively bilingual, she has given talks on spine issues in Mandarin and also published an article in Lianhe Zaobao on neck pain.

She is also a lecturer and mentor to medical students in NUS, LKC and Duke-NUS and is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in Duke-NUS. She is also the Education Director of the Singhealth Duke-NUS Spine Centre, overseeing the education of the senior residents of both Orthopedics Surgery and Neurosurgery. Her other portfolio includes being a member of the Quality Improvement committee, to ensure good healthcare practice and innovation.

In the Singapore Spine Community, she is the first female spine surgeon and is part of the diversity committee of the Singapore Spine Society. Her role is to engage female residents and to encourage more female presence together with the AOSpine global platform.

Outside of work, she enjoys yoga, baking and muay thai. She is also part of TIMA (Tzu Chi Medical Association) and has provided surgical care in poorer countries and participated in relief work during acute disasters.
